U.S. Springfield Armory Model 1892/96 Krag, CAL: .30-40 MFG: 1895, SN: 15719, Bolt action rifle, 30'' round barrel. The Walnut stock appear original & in very good condition, with some small scratches, scrapes & minor contusions throughout. Clear 1895 cartouche, double struck circle ''P'' below trigger guard. The barrel retains about 40% bluing in good condition. The receiver has a lightly rust-spotted lighter grey patina. Left side of receiver stamped '' 1894 U.S SPRINGFIELD ARMORY 15719''. Buttplate in the grey, with some light staining/rust showing, with trapdoor for cleaning kit/oiler, 3 piece cleaning rod & oiler is present. Nose cap, bayonet lug & front sling swivel iron with a brown/grey patina. The rear sight is a flip-up elevator, with graduations marks from 7 to 18 & appears to be in very good, functioning condition. The front sight is a blade on steel base. Bore is good with good rifling & some darkness showing. Action is strong & mechanically sound. Leather sling from buttstock sling swivel to first barrel band sling swivel. Bayonet/scabbard accompanies this rifle that is in very nice original condition. This is a solid example of an early Model 1892 Krag rifle that has been arsenal converted into the Model 1896 configuration, it has the updated stock with the plugged cleaning rod slot/hole, the second pattern front barrel band with double straps on top, the later bolt with the extractor with pin the receiver has also been altered for the extractor pin.
