U.S Springfield Model 1884, CAL: 45-70, MFG: 1890, SN: 445606, Breech Loading Trapdoor Rifle, 32 1/2'' barrel with visible markings ''V, P, Eagle Head, P'' remaining near breech end, then '' 2 206 S w at top of barrel behind rear sight. The one-piece walnut stock appears to have been lightly sanded & refinished, in overall good condition, displaying some scratches & dings throughout. Cartouche visible on left side wrist. The metal finish has toned to a true gun metal grey/ light brown patina with light spotting near the front barrel band. The breechblock retains nice case color and is stamped ''US MODEL 1884'' & with serial #. The side lock is stamped w/ eagle & ''US SPRINGFIELD'' The military steel buttplate is stamped ''U.S'' at top.. The rear sight is 1884 Buffington sight with graduations marked on left & right side from ''2 to 20'' & is in good functioning condition. The front sight is a small base with fine blade, Bore is very good with strong rifling present. Single serrated trigger. Front barrel band has correct stacking swivel. Hammer, spring & trapdoor action are strong & mechanically sound. Cleaning rod in place. A very nice example of American history. Antique, No FFL Req. - Value: 1500 to 3000
