Spencer Repeating Carbine, Model 1865, CAL: 56x56 R Spencer, MFG: 1860-69, SN:48865, Lever Action Repeating Rifle, 22'' Round barrel. The Spencer rifle employed a spring-loaded seven-shot tubular magazine that was located in the buttstock & a lever action, which when operated, ejected a spent cartridge & chambered a fresh one. By the end of the Civil War more than 144,000 Spencer rifles & carbines had been manufactured with over two-thirds of those purchased by the U.S. government. The walnut stocks appear original, in good condition. They display minor scratches & contusions. There is a 3'' glued crack in the forend & a 2 1/2'' missing chip at the toe. The three line address on receiver reads: ''SPENCER REPEATING / RIFLE CO. BOSTON MASS/ PAT'D MARCH 6, 1860''. The barrel & other metal surfaces have worn gun metal gray, with a bit of brown patina. No case-colors remain on the receiver or buttplate. The flip-up rear ladder sight is marked from 3 to 8m. The barrel carries a fine blade sight on top of 5/16 '' steel base. Bore contains distinctly visible rifling, with light rust & pitting throughout. Standard military style metal buttplate, with dark brown rust patina & access to tubular magazine. Saddle ring with leather lashing. Sling loop in the stock. Action appears strong & mechanically sound. These are fairly rare carbine, a true piece of American history. Antique, No FFL Req. - Value: 800 to 2000
