U.S. Springfield Model 1884, CAL: 45-70, MFG: 1886, SN: 330003, 32 1/2'' barrel, Trapdoor Breech Loading Rifle. The straight grip stock is very good, with multiple small contusions, scratches, scrapes, nicks & dings. It appears like it may have had a thin protective layer of finish added. There is a cartouche above trigger on left side is worn smooth & isn't legibe The metal finish is a mix of original blue in more protected areas, the rest toning to a gray/ brown patina. The barrel has a ''V.P'' over eagle head & the lock plate is stamped with eagle & ''U.S. SPRINGFIELD''. The barrel carries a small blade front sight on a block, which is partially missing & original flip-up rear ladder sight, marked 2 to 20, windage & elevation adjustable. Bore is excellent, bright with strong riffling. Trigger is checkered. Military style metal butt plate with dark brown patina from rust & some dings in middle, has US stamping at top. Double loops on front barrel band & single loop on front of trigger guard. The unique cleaning rod/ bayonet is present. A very nice & clean example. Antique, No FFL Req. - Value: 500 to 1000
