Westley Richards & Co., Sherwood Miniature ''Rook'' Rifle, CAL: 297/250 Rook, MFG: 1880's -1910, SN: 1896, Lever Action Breech Loading Rifle, 26 3/8'' barrel. This example is a small lightweight takedown rifle which used an improved Martini action chambered in the small ''Rook'' caliber. It makes an ideal rifle for small game hunting & target shooting. This unique British sporting firearm features a Detachable Barrel/Action patent. The left side of the barrel is marked ''WESTLEY RICHARDS & CO LONDON'', ''FOR 297/250 CARTRIDGE'', followed by ''1896''. The right side of the barrel is marked ''PATENT DETACHABLE BARREL 112''. The left side of receiver is marked ''WESTLEY RICHARDS & CO LONDON'' & the right side is marked ''IMPROVED DETACHABLE PATENT NO. 97111''. The original checkered straight grip wood stock with ebony forend tip is excellent, having been professionally refinished. There are minor contusions & handling marks to the finish. The original metal blue finish rates 90% overall, with intermittent spotting & speckling toned to a brown patina. The receiver displays ornamental scroll & accent engraving. Bore is good & bright, with intermittent pitting amongst proud rifling. The matted rib holds a two-tier folding leaf rear sight & blade front sight. Stock carries a checkered plastic buttplate, with squirrel vignette. Comes with (45) loaded rounds of .297/250 Rook, (53) unprimed brass cartridges & a 3 Die Set 297/250 Rook.* Antique, No FFL Req. - Value: 2000 to 3000
