Description

EXTREMELY FINE WILBUR GLAHN FACTORY ENGRAVED, Colt Single Action Army Revolver with Carved ''STEER HEAD'' Mother of Pear grips, .45 Colt Cal., MFG: 1927, SN: 349801, 5 1/2'' Barrel, The factory letter states this was shipped to Wolf & Klar of Fort Worth, TX. The barrel carries the thick front sight & one line block letter address. Frame has rampant Colt without circle & two line patent dates. SN is marked on frame & under the right grip on the front & back straps. Fitted with beautiful pearl grips with a deep relief carved ruby eyed steer head on right side. Left side has small chip at bottom back toe. Frame, Cyl., Barrel & backstrap are factory engraved by Colt Master Engraver Wilbur A. Glahn. Consisting of about 50% coverage of a foliate arabesque pattern with punch dot background. Cyl has scrolls between flutes & a wavy border near back edge. Top of backstrap has Glahn's characteristic ''V'' shaped design with a arabesque pattern in center of backstrap. It has arabesque design on bottom heel with scrolls around trigger guard & front trigger guard screw. According to accompanying Colt Factory Letter, gun shipped on Jan. 12, 1927, Order No. 11291/1, single gun shipment to Wolf & Klar, Ft. Worth, TX, Factory engraved, Nickel finish, 5 1/2'' in 45 Cal. Letter also stats shipped with rubber grips. No doubt the deluxe MOTHER OF PEARLS are Wolf & Klar products as seen on other Single Actions they sold. Nearly identical examples of Glahns level ''B'' engraving such as this can be seen on Pages 571-574 of The Colt Engraving Book - Volume Two, R.L. Wilson. This is a magnificent gun in extremely fine condition. Retaining virtually all of is original nickel, with reductions around edges of backstrap with erosion on those edges. There is very light holster wear scuffs on left side of muzzle. Grips fit well. Mechanically, the gun functions well with crisp clean bore.
