Description

AMAZING ENGRAVED J.M. Marlin Ballard, Deluxe Target Rifle, .38 Long Cal. (10 Bore), MFG. Antique SN: 18528, Lever Single Shot Rifle, 30'' Octagon #3 barrel. Manufactured circa 1880 to 1882. The receiver is engraved with floral scroll & punch dot designs with diamond panels having an elk on the left & a bear on the right side. The upper left front of the receiver is marked ''MARLIN ARMS CO. NEW HAVEN CT. U.S.A.//BALLARD'S PATENT NOV. 5. 1861.''. The matching serial number is marked on the bottom of the receiver & bottom of the barrel under the forearm. The blued barrel retains 99% coverage & the case-hardened remaining parts retain vivid case-colors & blued trigger. Mounted with a multi-point checkered straight walnut stock & forearm. The checkering is crisp & sharp. The high gloss finish is excellent with a few finish level handling marks. The barrel is fitted with an adjustable rear sight & a front blade sight. The bore is excellent. The markings & engravings are crisp & clear. The action is tight & excellent. This is a wonderful & beautifully engraved sporting rifle.* No FFL Req. - Value: 6000 to 12000
