Description

Spectacular Master Engraved Remington, Model 32 TC, 12 Ga., MFG: 1936, SN: K3063, Brake Action O/U Shotgun, Rarer 30'' ventilated ribbed barrel, 2 3/4'' & 3''. Full/Mod, Manufactured in 1936 & subsequently masterfully embellished by master gunsmith & engraver Walter Kolouch of McMinnville OR. Mr. Kolouch is widely recognized, even world famous, for the quality of his work. President Nixon commissioned an engraved gun he presented to the King of Sweden. Kolouch also engraved a gun for Brezhev of Russia. Kolouch recalled that this Model 32 was one of his earlier projects & was done for a wealthy oyster broker on the east coast. The work appears to have been commissioned on his behalf by ''Fox Chase Gun Shop of Philadelphia, PA.'' as that is engraved on the right side of the barrel. Engraving starts at the breech end on barrel & extends a full 6'' down the barrel. The shaded open foliate scrolls engraving surrounds the ''Fox Chase...'' (right) & the factory roll stamp (left). The barrel engraving further encompasses white gold inlayed doves on each side & down both sides of the top . The typical Model 32 action with sliding top bolt, further features foliate scrolls. The action is heavily embellished with fine deep relief open shaded foliate scrolls with gold wire outlining vignettes of gold inlays. On the right, the high relief gold inlays are of a short hair pointer & two rustled quail. The left side has a fox which has captured one of two mallard ducks. The bottom of the receiver displays a gold eagle ready to snatch a white gold hare, along with another flying gold mallard & dove. The release lever also has a gold crown inlayed on it, The underside of the receiver also has the make, model & serial number gold wire engraved, along with a letter ''R'' on the trigger guard. Kolouch signed the work within a banner above the vignette on the left side of the receiver. In addition to the engraving, the rifle was restocked with XXX crotch figured American walnut stocks & subsequently hand carved by Kolouch. The high relief carving & dimpled background is truly spectacular. Kolouch said this scroll & fleur-di-lis checkering was his most tedious & time consuming project & he tried to not replicate such intricacy on future commissions. He claimed he lost his a** on the gun because of the time it took to carve the stocks alone. Kolouch's comments regarding the difficulty & tedious nature of the work is certainly justified. The carving fully covers the beavertail forearm, the cheeks of the stock, the pistol grip & the flat surface of the pistol grip. The grain of the wood is also stunning, certainly worthy of the project. The stock remains in nearly 100% condition while the metal finish is likewise nearly 100%. Bores are minty. LOP measures 14-1/4? over a brown Pachmayr & whiteline pad. A special work of art & truly a presentation quality piece.* FFL or C&R Req. - Value: 15000 to 25000
