Description

Rare Remington UMC, Model 870, F or Premier Grade, 12 GA., MFG. 1961, SN: 734217V, Pump action shotgun, 28'' ventilated, matte ribbed barrel with two beads, the front being ivory. chambered 2 3/4'' Full, This rare factory custom shop shotgun was ordered in 61 & used as a Factory exhibition gun until it was presented to the Governor of Arkansas Orval Eugene Faubus (1955-67) in 1963 at the Southern Governors Conference of which he was the chairman. It was presented to him by Jim Dee of the National Shooting Sports Federation (NSSF) & members of the Remington Custom Shop. The shotgun was passed down through the family to a nephew until acquired by the current consigner where it remained for years in a collection of Remington engraved firearms. The fancy, high grade, fine line, checkered circassian wood stocks are excellent, with lots of scalloped & flamed figure. The stock has a capped pistol grip & a real gold factory inlayed initial plate bearing the inscription GOV. ORVAL E. FAUBUS. The original high gloss factory finish is excellent, with virtually all finish remaining & only a couple of pinhead sized finish depth handling scuffs & some very minor speckled hazing. Metal is excellent at 99% blue on barrel & receiver, 98% on tube with only losses caused from pumping the action. There are also 3 small scuffs on the left side of barrel. Extensive full coverage engraved, six separate hunting or game scene vignettes featuring pairs of hunting dogs, grouse, pheasant, sage hen & snipe & additional dog's profile engraved on bottom of trigger guard. Engraving also extends a full 6'' down the barrel. In 1961 Remington's Master Engravers were Bob Runge & Carl Enis. In those days, Remington did not encourage engravers to sign their work, so it is not known which engraver did the work. Bore is excellent, bright & shiny, Factory buttplate. Functionality is excellent & tight. Comes with various letters & documents outlining history & copies of the photographs taken when presented to the governor. All original, highest grade available of factory engraved shotguns are highly collectible, especially with known history & promanence.* FFL or C&R Req. - Value: 8500 to 12000
