Description

Rogers & Spencer, .44 caliber Percussion, Single Action Revolver. MFG. 1864, SN: 537. This six-shot revolver was manufactured in Willow Dale, New York, & was part of a 1864 Ordnance Department contract for 5,000 revolvers. Most of these Rodgers & Spencer revolvers were delivered after the conclusion of hostilities in April 1865 & were never issued. The top strap is marked ''ROGERS & SPENCER /UTICA N-Y''. The matching serial number is located on the bottom of the grip strap, the cylinder, the underside of the barrel & the left side of the frame. Loading Lever is marked with the # 110. Ordnance ''B'' sub-inspection marks are stamped on the barrel, frame, loading lever, cylinder, trigger guard, and grips. Cone front & frame notch rear sights, blue finish with case-hardened hammer & loading lever. Fitted with smooth walnut grips with a well-defined boxed ''RPB'' cartouche on the lower left side & each panel is numbered to the gun on the inside. The pistol is in very good original condition. The revolver retains 85% of the bright original blue finish on the barrel, frame & trigger guard, showing most wear & flaking of blue on the back strap & in front of trigger guard. The cylinder has lost most of its blue, leaving patches of smooth brown patina & some remains of blue in the protected areas. The case-color on the hammer, loading lever & trigger has muted to an even gray patina. The original grips are excellent with some chipping along bottom edge. All markings remain sharp. The action is excellent. The bore looks very good+. This is an all original, numbers matching (110 on Loading Lever) & high conditioned Civil War Rodgers & Spencer revolver worthy of the finest Civil War collection. Antique No FFL Req. - Value: 6000 to 12000
