Description

Poultney & Trimble, Model Smith Carbine. MFG: 1850, Cal. .50 Percussion, S/N: 3279, Breech Percussion Carbine, 21 1/2' Round barrel. This is a Civil War Era Smith Carbine single shot rifle chambered in 50 cal. by Poultney & Trimble. Along with the Spencer, Burnside, Maynard, & Sharps, the Smith was one of the ''Big Five'' main issued carbines during the Civil War & was issued to several Federal & state units. Condition is excellent overall. The case-hardened receiver & components still display wonderful colors. The barrel blue is excellent military soft blue finish on the barrel, 80-90% of the glassy blue on the triggerguard & related parts. The bore is excellent & wood rates excellent with small dings. Excellent deeply struck Federal acceptance cartouche on the left wrist. The initials ''J.H.'' stamped on back upper comb by buttplate. ''L.F.R.'' stamped on left side of barrel. Overall, this is a carbine that will be hard to improve on. No FFL Req.. - Value: 1000 to 3000
