Remington, Model 31 Military, 12 Ga., 2 3/4'' or shorter shells, MFG. 1941, SN: 38449, Pump Action Shotgun, 26'' Solid matted rib, two bead barrel, IMP CYL, 2 3/4'', This gun has stampings that mimic the Government issue model 31's which proceeds the later Model 31 Riot guns, which were in the 51,000 to 63,500 serial number range. This shotgun carries on the left side of the receiver the stamped initials ''RLB'' for Lt. Colonel Roy L. Cowlin, Chief Rochester Ordnance District (through 1942), over a ''Flaming Ordnance Bomb'' stamp. The ''Flaming Ordnance Bomb'' stamp on this gun is different from any variation we have encountered, which has lead a couple of knowledgeable collectors in military weapons to question the authenticity of this stamping. Some of these pre-WWII model 31 shotguns were Special Service Shotguns or Special Service Sporting Equipment for recreational use. Later many evolved into protection or guard duty use during the war. The original factory checkered & flat knob pistol grip stocks are excellent & solid. The original finish is excellent, but with some light haze from light handling on the forend. The original metal blue on barrel is 90%, 85% on the receiver & mag with the thinning loss likely due to handling & pump action. Bore is excellent. Stock carries the original Remington buttplate. The shotgun is missing the locking washer portion of the barrel lock nut. Although the lock washer clicks into place, it does not clinch up tight. Rare high original & collector's condition. LOP 14'' over pad, 7.64 lbs. FFL or C&R Req - Value: 500 to 1000
