Description

VERY RARE Remington UMC, PRE- Model 11, CUT-AWAY, 12 GA., MFG. 1905, SN: 6259, 28'' no rib barrel, Semi-Auto Shotgun. This shotgun once resided in the Remington Factory Archives & the Remington Factory Museum. It is a factory built cut-away used for educating the sales force & by the salesman to display the functionality of the new Automatic Shotgun, which later became known as the Remington Model 11. Stamped on the underside of the barrel, beneath the forearm, is ''MOD L'', which was the alphabetic letter code the Automatic Shotgun was known as within the plant. The left side of the receiver carries a brass identity tag stamped ''V2231'' & the stock carries the remains of inventory letters ''CA-?07'', written below the pistol grip. The smooth, round pistol grip, walnut stocks are very good, original & solid. The factory finish is very good, with a number of small handling marks, scratches or contusions. The forearm has a tightly glue repaired crack along the bottom & a small glued repair around its cut-away window. The stock has a chip at the toe resulting from the buttplate being cut-away & not protecting the toe. The stock & forearm have cut-aways to allow for visual inspection of the internal springs which reside below. The receiver, trigger guard & mag have an additional 9 cut-aways to further allow a window into the functionality of the internal components. The factory metal blue finish is 85% on barrel & 80% toning to a gray patina on the receiver. Bore is excellent, minty, as it was probably never shot. Stock carries the original Remington buttplate. Functionality appears excellent & tight. With the help of this cut-away, Remington successful produced & marketed over 850,000 Pre Model 11 & Model 11 shotguns between 1905 & 1947. It was offered in 12, 16 & 20 gauge & in 8 different grades, including ''Riot'' & ''Police'' special grades & lead to ''The Sportsman'' variation. This cut-away was wonderful tool to market & demonstrate the craftsmanship & functionality of this new technology of its time. A rare & collectible original example of Remington firearms history.* FFL or C&R Req. - Value: 2000 to 4000
