Colt Model 1878 Colt Frontier Six Shooter Cal. .44.40 WCF, MFG: 1891, SN: 28-529, Double Action Revolver. 7 1/2'' round barrel, The Model 1878 was the first Colt heavy frame double action revolver. A total of 51,210 Colt Model 1878 revolvers were manufactured between 1878 & 1905. The term Frontier Six Shooter connects these revolvers with their primary intended market in the West. Caliber mark on bottom of barrel ahead of cylinder. Top of barrel marked on one line: ''COLT'S PT.F. A. MFG Co HARTFORD CT U.S.A..'' The left side of the barrel is marked ''COLT FRONTIER SIX SHOOTER'' The serial number is stamped in two lines at the bottom of the bird's head grip. The loading gate is stamped with the assembly number ''58'', as well as on the left side of grip under grip panel. The rear face of the cylinder is stamped with ''529'', the last 3 digits of this pistol's SN. Original Rampant Colt emblem, dark brown, hard rubber checkered grips, are in very good condition. Action is excellent & markings are very clear. Trigger, top of hammer & screws are fire blued. Metal high polish blue finish is 50% finish on barrel & frame, 25% on cylinder. Bore is in excellent condition. Lanyard loop on bottom of backstrap. Very nice overall condition. Collectable antique. No FFL Req. - Value: 2000 to 4000
