Description

Enfield (Kirkee Arsenal), Model: MK IV, Cal: .577/450 Martini-Henry, MFG: 1887 (Re-Assembled in 1908), S/N: E2069, Lever breech loading single shot rifle, 33 1/4'' barrel. The two piece straight wrist stock is very good & shows wear & tear from many long years of service, wood has darkened from oil/age, plugged hole from where the short level from a MK 3 would have ended, 1.5'' x 1.5'' plug repair at top of stock next to butt plate, Kirkee Arsenal cartouche's on right side of stock on cheek with 1908 date. The metal has been re-blued likely when it was assembled in 1908 & rates 85% overall with areas of wear & scratches. Right side of receiver has original markings that are faint but reads, Crown over ''V.R.'', ''ENFIELD'', ''1887'', proof mark, ''IV'':, ''1'', the new markings are sharp & clear & read ''KK.'' arrow ''A.'', ''11.08'', left side of receiver is marked with a British proof mark, left side of barrel is marked with S/N & British proof marks, top of barrel is marked ''KK.'' two arrows ''A.'', ''11.08'', right side of barrel is marked with more British proofs, lower front tang, trigger guard, lever & bottom of receiver under lever is all stamped with British proofs. Bore is very good, bright with some roughness. Barleycorn on block front sight, tangent/ladder V-notch rear sight marked 100 to 400 on base, 5 to 12 on ladder. Steel butt plate that has cleaned pitting & toned to a brown patina, has one replaced brass screw. Bottom sling loops, has cleaning rod. A Fairly interesting rifle, its started its life as a front line rifle for the British in 1887 two years before production stopped, at some point it was taken off the front line and broken down for parts, the parts was shipped off to India in 1908 and re-assembled by them & likely used for many years, then it was likely sold to some middle eastern county & used by them for many more years, before somehow ending up here in the states. This rifle has been around for many years & has seen a lot of action, & now it can be part of your collection. Antique No FFL Req. - Value: 500 to 1000
