EXTREMELY RARE PROTOTYPE Tarn (Swift Rifle Co.), Model 1944 PROTOTYPE (1 OF 9 PRODUCED), Single Action Semi-Auto Pistol, 9mm Cal., MFG 1940's, SN: 106, There were nine produced & serialization started at 100, making this pistol the sixth one produced. 4 3/4'' barrel. In April of 1945, the British tested four samples of the Swift Rifle Co.Tarn pistol, which was patented by Z. de Lubicz Bakanowski, a Polish exile. This all steel 9mm Parabellum pistol is a simple blowback type, which was tested by the British Weapons Board. It did very poorly when tested against the current semi-autos used by British (Browning P-35 HP). All test pieces were returned to the manufacture. The few examples produced were then sold & imported into the U.S. in the 1960's, to end up in the hands of collectors. The factory checkered wood grips on this example are excellent, with one thumb print sized contusion to left side grip. Blue finish is 95%, with trigger toning red on right side of trigger. Bore is excellent. Milled groove along top of slide, with very small front sights. A very rare specimen for the 9mm collector. FFL or C&R Req - Value: 2000 to 10000
