Description

Carl Gustafs Stads Gevarsfaktori, Model: AG-42B, Cal: 6.5x55mm, MFG: 1943, S/N: 13955, Semi-auto rifle, 25 1/2'' barrel. The semi pistol grip wood stock is very good with light nicks, dings, scratches & wear from use/age, brass bore disc embedded in right cheek of stock, proof marks stamped into bottom wrist of stock, stock has been cut out to add the scope mount. The metal finish rates 75% on the receiver with light wear & thinning, & 85% on the barrel with light wear. Left side of receiver is marked ''19'' crown over ''C'' ''43'', S/N & ''B'', left side of slide is marked ''B'', right side of receiver is marked ''S.S.'', rear of receiver by safety is marked ''H'', right end of barrel is marked with importer stamps. Bolt has S/N electro penciled onto left side. Bore is very good, bright with light roughness & minor rifling wear. Barrel holds a hooded blade front sight with a elevation adjustable U-notch rear sight, someone has nicely mounted a Russian Mosin PU scope & rail to the side. Stock carries a steel butt plate. Side/bottom sling loops. During WW2 Sweden saw that the US, Russa, & the Germans all either had semi-auto rifles or were developing them, Sweden also was able to get their hands on a couple SVT-38's that were captured by Finland during the winter war, so with a semi-auto rifle in their hands they set off to develop one of their own. In about a year (which is insanely fast a & impressive) the AB C.J.Ljungmans Verkstder company came up with the AG M/42. 30,000 rifles were made in the span of just 2 years. They would not see much conflict as they had some issue's, mainly with the lubrication freezing up in the cold causing the gun to malfunction & rusting gas tubes, so most were put back in storage & Sweden kept using the old bolt action Mausers. Between 1953 & 56 they went through & modified almost all the rifles & fixed the problems, they added a stainless steel gas tube like the M1 Garand, added two round knobs on the slide for better grip, added a new elevation knob for the rear sight, a new rubber case deflector, a new magazine retention clip, new cleaning rods, & added side vent holes to the end of the barrel, this new model is the AG M/42B which is the rifle we have here. Manufacturing license & machinery would be sold to Egypt, they would chamber them for 8mm Mauser making the Hakim rifle, they would also scale the whole rifle down & chamber it in 7.62x39 making the Rasheed rifle. FFL or C&R Req. - Value: 1200 to 3000
