Colt Model 1861. Cal. 58. SN: None. Manufactured 1864, Antique. Muzzle loading rifle. 40'' round barrel, Walnut stock has multiple scratches, scrapes & contusions throughout, one large 1'' chip. There is a very faint cartouche visible on the left side of stock just above trigger. The barrel is an light brown/grey patina, with some darker patches around the muzzle & some pitting around the nipple/breech area.. Eagle head, P & V stamped on barrel. Then E.P. R. on left side of barrel with large ''STEEL'' next to that. Stamped on lock is: ''U.S. COLT'S Pt F A Mfg Co. HARTFORD Ct 1864'' Rusted buttplate has light pitting at toe & heel with ''U S'' stamped at top. Trigger guard, three barrel bands, nose cap & ramrod are steel with a brown/grey patina. The rear sight has flip up elevator with two apertures. The front sight is a small blade on steel base. Bore has rust coating over all, very faint rifling visible. Hammer & spring action are all strong & mechanically sound. roughly 130,000 Special Model 1861 muskets were produced by Colt for the US government. Sling swivels present at trigger guard & 2nd barrel band. Comes with a spare nipple. Antique, No FFL Req. - Value: 2000 to 4000
