Wakizashi ,Overall length in scabbard is 24'' black lacquered Saya, with black Sageo cord attached. The blade is 15 1/2'' in length early Edo period (1700-1800s) in nice polish with komaru (smaller, sweeping turnback of the hamon in the kissaki. Temper is very nice highly visible gunome. Highly visible Itame grain (wood grain, resembling the surface of a wooden board cut against the grain). This blade is signed & is original length not a cut down longer blade. One mekugi-ana that was punched not drilled, another indicator of age. Blade and tang overall length is 20 ''.The tsuka has some looseness in the wrapping, fuchi is old iron with engraving & kashira is bone and is loose under the wrap. Crane motifs in the menuki are Iron with gold accents. Rayskin under wrapping is in need of repair as there are some missing pieces & appears very old. The tsuba is beautiful old iron in excellent condition with silver flying crane, gold bamboo and creek inlaid motif. Very nice well fitted two-piece copper habaki. This is a very nice old wakizashi with some excellent matching kosherae & well executed signature. Just needing new wrap on handle. - Value: 2000 to 4000
