Katana. Overall length in scabbard is 38 inches, black painted saya with some worn patches exposing plain wood beneath, appears to be missing leather cover. Saya does not have Sageo cord attached .The blade is 26 '' in length, WWII era 1940 Army officers Gunto in nice polish with omaru hamon in the kissaki . Temper is very nice visible Notareba (gently undulating waves). This blade is not signed and is original length not a cut down longer blade. There is kanji painting on the tang, possibly an arsenal or rack number. Two mekugi-ana that are drilled, as standard for this era blade. Blade & tang overall length is 37 ''
The tsuka is in good condition typical for WWII original wrapping. Fuchi/kashira are standard military brass with chrysanthemum motifs as well as in the brass menuki. Rayskin under wrapping is in decent condition with a small section missing and appears from 1940s. The tsuba is standard WWII brass in excellent condition with typical flower motif. The habaki is a single piece brass with light scratching decorations.
This is a well- kept WWII standard Japanese army issued Gunto sword with military fittings and a nice visible temper line and all parts in good condition. - Value: 1500 to 3000
