WWII Kai Gunto Naval Katana. Overall length in scabbard is 38 3/8 '', heavy black lacquered saya with many pieces of lacquer missing from impacts & age patches exposing plain wood beneath. the blade is 27 '' in length, WWII era officers Gunto in fair polish a lot of scratches and dings that have been partially sanded out along both sides of blade, mostly around monouchi. This blade is signed on both sides of the nakago, has naval anchor stamp as well & is original length not a cut down longer blade. The kissaki has 1/8'' chip at the tip. One drilled mekugi-ana. Blade & tang overall length is 35 '' The tsuka is fair condition typical for WWII Kai Gunto wrapping. Fuchi/kashira are standard military brass with chrysanthemum motifs as well as in the brass menuki. Blackened rayskin under wrapping is in fair condition & appears from 1940s. The tsuba is WWII Kai Gunto style with all 7 pieces having matching stamp, 4 brass seppa, 2 blackened dai seppa with sun-rays & plain blackened copper tsuba in good condition. The habaki is 1940's single piece silver wash kai guntu style copper. This sword is forged from stainless steel bar stock with artificial hamon, and not considered a true Samurai sword. These WWII Kai-Gunto style Japanese swords are becoming scarce, especially with stainless steel naval stamped blades. - Value: 1000 to 2000
