WWII Naval Landing Force Katana in type 44 mountings Overall length in scabbard is 38 1/2 '', steel khaki colored painted saya with many spots of paint missing from wear, impacts & age. The blade is 26 1/8 '' in length, a late WWII era Gunto in fair polish with some serious rust, pitting, filing scratches & dings along monouchi.. Saguha temper line & most likely oil quenched machine made blade . This blade is crudely signed on both sides of nakago & is original length not a cut down longer blade. There is kanji painting on the tang, possibly an arsenal or rack number & an arsenal stamp. Two drilled mekugi-ana. Blade & tang overall length is 35 1/8 '' The tsuka is fair condition type 44 late war wrapping over plastic ray skin. Fuchi/kashira are late war iron with chrysanthemum motifs as well as iron menuki. The tsuba is plain iron undecorated with two stamped iron seppa.. The habaki appears to be recent reproduction single piece brass with light scratch decorations. These sword types are becoming more difficult to find in any condition. - Value: 500 to 1000
