MAGNIFICENT Wenzel Maschek, Custom, Cal. 11mm. MFG:1853 -1861, Antique. No SN, Austria, Single shot under/side lever operated tip-up rifle. Unusual 29'' heavy barrel with the top being ribbed & with fluting on both sides. The beautiful checkered walnut stocks are excellent, with original finish & gorgeous grain pattern. The fore stock has a custom, elaborately carved, fierce looking & bearded face of a man on the top 3'', with fine checkering & a silver oval inlay. The buttstock has an extra large cheek piece, fine checkering, an elaborately relief carved horn pistol grip extension over the steel tang. Silver Schuezen style buttplate with extremely fine hand engravings of a Gryphon with gold inlay & leaves. ''No 1147'' is also nicely hand engraved into the buttplate. The receiver, top tang, hammer, underlever, trigger guard, end of barrel & rear peep sight, are all covered in elaborately done, highly detailed, engraving with gold inlay. Top of barrel has gold inlay of maker: ''W. MASCHEK in WIEN''. Barrel retains 85% of bluing with some very light oxidation. The barrel carries a finely engraved silver front globe sight & dovetailed rear adjustable sight. Mounted on the upper receiver tang is a three - way silver adjustable peep sight, with detailed engraving. Bore is in excellent condition, with sharp visible rifling. Double set-triggers. Action is very tight. Barrel to receiver has no play & function is excellent. Outstanding custom engraved rifle that has stood up to time & remains in collector quality, complete with all original parts. A high quality firearm likely crafted for members of early 19th century nobility. No FFL Req. - Value: 4000 to 8000
