J. Stevens A & T Co. Model 52 Schuetzen Junior. CAL: 32-40. MFG:1897 to 1906 SN:4634. Single shot lever action rifle. Barrel:31 3/4'' Octagon/round heavy barrel. The original high grade, highly figured, checkered walnut stocks are excellent. The Schnabel tip forearm carries a custom palm rest, with case-hardened metal connecting rod. The Swiss style buttstock has a case-hardened Schuetzen-style buttplate, an ''S'' shaped pistol grip &a large raised cheek. The stocks appear to carry the original finish, which is excellent with only some light dings & scratches. Barrel retains 85% bluing with some thinning on the flats that is starting to tone plum. Barrel marked, ''J. STEVENS A & T CO. CHICOPEE FALLS. MASS USA. APR. 17.94''. Barrel is scalloped for scope mounts front & rear. Lever has full finger loop & Schuetzen double set triggers. The case-hardened receiver retains faded case-coloring under factory scroll style engraving. Case-colors also visible on lever & top/bottom tangs. Barrel & lower tang carry matching serial numbers. Front sight is a unique globe, but missing post.. No provision for rear sight. Tang mounted period Vernier sight with multiple adjustors for windage, elevation, graduations & adjustable 6 sizes of apertures. Bore is excellent. Mechanically excellent, as action is tight & appears to function very well. Weighs 12.48 lbs. The rifle comes with a letter from a previous owner telling of how he aquired the rifle from the estate of the great grand daughter of the original owner (Mr. Hall). It tells a bit about who the owner was & with the letter come a couple of articles from Shooting & Fishing publication where it discuss the rifle being used by Mr. Hall. A great example of a factory engraved, deluxe high grade, in wonderful original condition. FFL or C&R Req. - Value: 5000 to 10000
