J. Stevens A & T Co. Model 49 Walnut Hill Rifle. CAL: 32-40. MFG:1895 to 1916 SN:5247. Single shot lever action rifle. Barrel: 31 3/4'' Octagon/round heavy barrel. A high grade model with highly figured, checkered walnut stocks. Forearm carries a Schnabel tip. The original finish is excellent, with some light dings & scratches. The Swiss style buttstock has case-hardened Schuetzen buttplate. This rifle is configured for left-hand shooter as the raised cheek rest is on the right side of stock. Lever has full finger loop & Schuetzen double set triggers. Barrel retains 85% bluing with some edge wear on the flats toning plum where it has thinned. Barrel marked, ''J. STEVENS A & T CO. CHICOPEE FALLS. MASS USA. APR. 17.94''. The case-hardened receiver retains faded case-colors under factory scroll style engraving. Left side of receiver carries an engraved hunter with dog afield, right side two squirrels in tree. Nice visible case-colors on all sides, top/bottom tangs & on lever, a rarity among lever action rifles due to the use. SN match on barrel & lower tang. Rifle mounted with a period Vernier adjustable tang sight with multiple adjustors for windage, elevation & graduations, & aperture disk with 6 sizes of apertures. No provision for rear sight & a unique globe front sight, with circular post & bubble level. Bore is excellent. Action is tight & appears to mechanically function very well. Weighs 9.44 lbs. A great example of a rarely encountered high grade, factory engraved model in high collectors condition. FFL or C&R Req. - Value: 5000 to 10000
