J. Stevens A & T Co. Model 45. Cal. 32-40. MFG:1896 to 1904 SN:21952. Single shot lever action falling block rifle. 26'' octagon/round heavy barrel. The original straight grip stock & Schnabel tipped forearm are original & good. The stocks have been sanded & refinished leaving the metal proud to the wood. The stocks carry light dings & scratches, with darker areas. The barrel & receiver carry a brown patina with screws showing slot wear. The barrel marked: J. STEVENS A & T CO. CHICOPEE FALLS. MASS USA. APR. 17.94. Barrel serial number matches number on tang. The barrel is mounted with scope mounts & a rare period scope marked J. STEVENS ARMS & TOOL C0. PAT PNDG CHICOPEE FALLS. MASS. USA NO 181. Scope carries a gray/brown patina, with some speckled rust or cleaned pitting, & some small dents in the body around the mounts. Mounts utilize sight provisions, so no open sight or extra holes or dovetails. Buttstock has a Swiss style but plate which is one of the differences between the model 44 & this model 45. Bore is very good with visible rifling. Action is tight & appears to functions well. These guns were typically shot a lot, but this one has a lot of life left in it. FFL or C&R Req. - Value: 600 to 1200
