Sharps Cavalry Carbine. Model 1859 New Model, CAL: .52, Percussion. MFG: 1859 to 1863. SN: 65906, Lever Falling Block Single Shot Rifle, 22'' Round barrel marked ''SHARPS RIFLE/ MANUFG.CO/ HARTFORD CONN.''- '' NEW MODEL 1859''. Carbines like this were issued by Cavalry troops during the Civil War. The weapon measures 39'' overall & the shorter length made it easier to handle on horseback. The walnut stocks are in very good condition, carrying a military oil finish with numerous small scratches, scrapes & contusions. There are very faint cartouches above & below the saddle ring bar which are hard to make out. Original iron patch box in the buttstock. The barrel & other metal surfaces carry a dark grey/brown patina, with some light pitting near the muzzle. The rear sight is an R.S. Lawrence adjustable up to 800 yards rear ladder sight, stamped ''R.S. LAWRENCE/PATENTED FEB 15TH 1859''. The front sight is heavy iron silver blade. Left side of receiver is stamped: ''C. SHARPS PAT/SEPT. 12TH 1842''. Right side of receiver stamped: ''R.S. LAWRENCE PAT./APRIL 12TH 1858 & C. SHARPS PAT/OCT. 5TH 1852''. The serial number is located on top of the receiver tang. Bore is good, dark with scaring, but distinctive visible rifling. Single Iron barrel band is present & matches the barrel surface. Bottom tang carries the lever locking lug. Single trigger. Standard military style metal buttplate. Action is strong & mechanically sound. Appears to be a complete & battle used carbine. Antique, No FFL Req.. - Value: 3000 to 10000
