Sharps Model 1859 New Model, Sddle Ring Carbine. Cal.:40-70. SN: 63983. Antique MFG: 1860-62 Lever Falling Block Single Shot Rifle, Cartridge Conversion model. 25'' tapered barrel, with markings on top of barrel ''OLD RELIABLE'' then ''SHARPS RIFLE CO. BRIDGEPORT. CONN.'' & under the rear sight ''R.S. LAWRENCE/PATENTED/FEB 15TH 1859''. Original straight grain American walnut stocks contain significant scratches & dings. The stocks carry the original finish with added layers of finish. Saddle ring. Fitted with a flip-up ladder sight showing graduations on the face from 2 to 8 & appears to once been case colored. Front sight is small, heavy duty blade sight. The barrel retains little of its original blue, turning to a thin brown patina. It has some dings & light rust speckling. The action, receiver & lever were case-hardened & have worn to a gun metal gray. Screws show some wear. Single trigger. Original military style buttplate. Bore shows wear with some pitting, more so at the breech end, lands & grooves are light, but visible. The action & hammer functions correctly & is solid with a very crisp trigger. Lockplate was modified at time of conversion, it is assumed this is a Sharps factory conversion. These cartridged conversions were a popular & well used carbine. No FFL Req - Value: 2000 to 5000
