Marlin Ballard, Model Union Hill #9, marked 32-40 Cal., MFG. 1884-91, SN: 32221, Lever Falling Block Rifle, 28'' Half octagon half round barrel. In Brophy's book ''Marlin Firearms'', the Union Hill Rifle No. 9 is described as a half octagon barrel, pistol grip stock, with cheek piece, ''Off Hand'' nickeled buttplate, single triggers, graduated peep & globe front sights. The factory checkered wood stocks are excellent & solid. Both have a couple of short & tight grain cracks. They are serial numbered to the rifle, possibly lightly sanded & have had an added layer of finish added over the original finish. They have a number of small contusions & scratches, while checkering on the stocks appear original, The barrel is also serial numbered stamped to match the rifle & retains 90% of the original blue finish. The case-hardened receiver, lever & hammer display the faded outlines of smokey case-colors. The stock carries a metal nickeled Schuetzen buttplate, which sits a bit proud to the wood at the top around the inletting. It is stamped with the matching serial number on the underside. The rifle is mounted with a Marlin's improved Vernier mid-range graduated peep tang sight, no provision for a rear sight & Marlin wind gauge front sight with spirit level. Bore is excellent. This is a wonderful example of what appears to be an original survivor. No FFL Req. - Value: 2000 to 4000
