Marlin Ballard, Model Union Hill #8, marked 32-40 Cal., MFG. 1883-90, SN: 24638, Lever Falling Block Rifle, 30'' Half octagon half round barrel. In Brophy's book ''Marlin Firearms'', the Union Hill Rifle No. 8 is described as a half octagon barrel, pistol grip stock, with cheek piece, ''Off Hand'' nickeled buttplate, double set triggers, graduated peep & globe front sights. The factory checkered wood stocks are excellent & solid. They appear to have been lightly sanded & refinished, while the checkering appears original. The stocks display very few scuffs or contusions, along with a 2'' scratch to the forearm. The barrel is serial numbered stamped to match the rifle & carries a mix of original finish toning to a brown patina & additional applied color. The case-hardened receiver, lever & hammer appear to have been scrubbed, displaying a muted gray tone with some light pitting. The stock carries a metal nickeled Schuetzen buttplate, which sits a bit proud to the wood at the top around the inletting. It is stamped with the number 22550 on the underside. The rifle is mounted with a graduated peep tang sight, blank filled rear dovetail & globe front sight. Bore is very good, with strong rifling. This would be an excellent rifle to purchase as a black powder shooter. No FFL Req. - Value: 1500 to 3000
