Winchester, Model 1885, marked .32-40 Cal., MFG. 1904, SN: 96791, Lever Single Shot Rifle, 30'' Half Octagon- Half Round #2 barrel. The checkered & capped pistol grip wood stocks are excellent & solid, as possible replacements or as restored. Stock carries the #18525 under the buttplate. The current finish is excellent, with few small handling marks or contusions. The tip of the forearm has the ebony insert. The barrel carries an even coverage of a plum/brown patina , while the original blue is strong under the forearm. The blued receiver is worn with some thinned blue remaining under a mostly dark brown patina. The case-hardened lever & block are mostly brown, with some outlines of faded case-colors remaining in protected areas. Bore is good, dark with visible rifling. In addition to the #2 marking on the underside of the barrel, the barrel is also stamped with the caliber marking & another ''2'' under the forearm. Forearm also carries a # 2 on it. The rifle is tang mounted with Lyman peep sight, no rear provision & a folding ivory bead globe front sight. The stock carries a restored silver nickeled brass Schuetzen buttplate. Single set trigger. A nicely restored rifle with strong eye appeal. FFL or C&R Req - Value: 1000 to 3000
