Remington, No. 5 High Power Rolling Block Sporting & Target Rifle, Cal. .32-40, MFG: early 20th Century, S/N: 6900, 28'' Half octagon - half round heavy barrel. This rifle carries no Remington markings on the barrel or receiver, but it is consigned as a Remington No. 5 rifle. Remington No. 5 rifles are extremely rare as some sources place production at fewer than 300. The barrel is a possible replacement as it is only marked ''FLUID-STEEL-KRUPP-ESSEN-''. The left side of the receiver is six line marked ''PATENTS, May 3 1864, May 7 June 11, Nov. 12 Dec. 24, Dec 31 1872., Sept 2 1873''. The rifle is stamped 6900 on the lower tang. The stock carries the original metal crescent buttplate, which is also stamped 6900 on the underside. The original wood stocks are in excellent condition, with the majority of original finish & very few handling marks. The receiver end of the forearm is also marked with the same SN 6900 & carries a Schnabel shaped metal inlayed tip. The barrel blue is 90%, with lose primarily due to a couple of areas of flaking & the finish starting to tone plum at the octagon end. The case-hardened receiver has mostly faded to shadows of case-colors. Rifle is mounted with an early graduated, slide adjusting, aperture tang peep sight, two leaf folding rear sight & a folding globe front sight. Bore is excellent. This rifle is a unique example of a sporting rolling block rifle. FFL or C&R Req. - Value: 2000 to 4000
