SCARCE Wurfflein, Model 25 Cal.32-40. MFG:1890, S/N:5143. 29 3/4'' Heavy Octagon/round barrel. Off hand tip-up target single shot rifle. The original, beautiful checkered walnut, pistol grip stocks are excellent, as professionally refinished. The stocks have wonderful grain, with very few light finish level dings or scratches. The forearm has provision to screw in additional hand supports. Swiss nickel plated Schuetzen buttplate. Two line markings on top of barrel flat: ''W. WURFFLEIN. PHILADA.PA U.S.A. - PATENTED JUNE 24TH, 1884''. The barrel & receiver carry a thin brown patina. Unusual thumb hammer lever action to open barrel for loading & cleaning. Barrel to receiver has no play & function is excellent. The small round non-traditional checkered set-trigger is behind main trigger & functions well, making the front trigger exceptionally light. Barrel is serial numbered to gun. Rifle fitted with a Vernier adjustable tang sight, no provision for rear sight & adjustable globe front sight. Bore is in excellent. The surname Wurfflein was a famous Philadelphia family gun making name with William being the son of Andrew Wurfflein who was know for his percussion derringers, double barrel shotguns & other arms. William was active from 1874 to 1910 as the W. Wurfflein Gun Co. This is a rare & high quality 19th century firearm for the collector that appreciates early small production craftsmanship. Antique, No FFL Req. - Value: 2000 to 4000
