Remington Model 1863, .58 Cal., MFG 1863-65, Percussion Muzzle Loading rifle, 25'' barrel. The original stock looks like it may have been cut at one time in the middle of the stock above the patch box, however the finish on the stock appears original with added oils along the way. The stock to metal fit is excellent & the stock carries both cartouches on the left cheek above the trigger guard. The metal finish has toned mostly gun metal gray with spots developing a brown patina & speckeled rust pitting. Brass barrel bands, trigger guard & buttplate. Side plates & hammer are case-hardened & still carry nice case-colors, which is verry rare for this model. Fixed rear sight with two additional flip up leafs & standard front sight. Ramrod is likely a replacement. Patch box carries an extra nipple & patch or ball retrieval tool. A very nice Arsenal rifle & one of approximately 12,000 produced. A great piece of history.
