U.S. Springfield. Model 1873. Cal. 45-70, Antique SN: 263875. Manufactured 1884. Breech loading trapdoor rifle. 32'' round barrel, with only partial visible markings remaining near breech end. The one-piece walnut stock appears original & in good condition, with multiple scratches, scrapes & contusions throughout. There is one cartouche visible on the left side of stock just above trigger. The barrel is an even dark brown/grey patina, with some darker patches around the muzzle. Side lock carries light case-colors & has very crisp winged eagle, ''U.S. SPRINGFIELD'' stampings. Buttplate with ''U S'' stamped at top. Trigger guard, two barrel bands, nose cap & cleaning rod are iron with a brown/grey patina. The rear sight is a 1884 Buffington sight with graduations marked on sides from 2 to 20, appears in good functioning condition. The front sight is a carbine style. Bore has some shine with light rust overall, still strong rifling present. Single trigger. Front barrel band having correct stacking swivel. Hammer, spring & trapdoor action are all strong & mechanically sound. Antique, No FFL Req. - Value: 500 to 1500
