U.S. Springfield. Model 1898 Carbine. Gauge. 410. MFG 1898. SN: 167063. Bolt action rifle converted to 410 Gauge shotgun. 22'' barrel. Stock appears to be original walnut that has been fully reshaped & sporterized. It carries a heavy varnish finish applied over multiple scratches & dings, some having been filled prior to applying finish. Stampings on left side of receiver ''U.S. / MODEL 1898 SPRINGFIELD ARMORY 1670363'', no other markings on gun. Barrel, trigger guard & receiver carry 75% of a re-blued finish. Top of bolt mounted with a stamped metal peep sight. Barrel has two screw filled rear sight holes Front sight is a rough formed steel bead. The right side box magazine has a 1/2'' crack on the edge just below the opening lever. Safety does not appear to work. Not sure if it will load from box mag or if solely a single shot loaded through the bolt opening. Bore is good with some light pitting. Well-worn steel buttplate. Action is functional. Overall condition is good. A unique lightweight, 410 shotgun built on a Krag-Jorgensen base. No FFL Req. - Value: 150 to 300
