H.M Quackenbush Model ''Safety Cartridge'', 22, MFG:1896-1908, SN: NONE, Swing Gate Single Shot Rifle, 18'' round barrel. The Safety Cartridge rifle started production in 1896 to 1920, but a wood forearm was added in 1908. This is the earlier version without the forearm. The straight grip wood stock is good & solid after a repair was done at the wrist with brass pins to repair a couple small cracks. It was heavily sanded & refinished, displaying few remaining handling marks & a nice look. The original nickel finish has 90% overall coverage, but with numerous surface blemishes & light pitting on the barrel. Bore is fair, dark & worn, but with visible rifling. Barrel is fitted with rear fixed sight, missing the adjustable vertical screw & a small front blade sight. Original early swiss style metal buttplate with nickel finish missing from wear or having been cleaned. Replace screw in buttplate & screw missing at left side of wrist. Early example. FFL or C&R Req. - Value: 100 to 250
