L.C. Smith. Model: W H Baker 3 barrel, Cal. 44-40 & 12 gauge. Action: Break open double barrel, side by side shotgun with rifle barrel below. MFG:1877-88. S/N: 1039. The original walnut stock are in very good condition with original finish. The forestock has well-worn checkering with lightly visible casehardened metal parts. The buttstock has checkering on pistol grip that is more defined than the forestock. The stocks have numerous light dings & scratches. The receiver, top/bottom tangs & action/release are case hardened. The receiver has very little case-coloring remaining. Top of barrel. Marked: ''L.C. SMITH MAKER SYRACUSE NY STLE TWIST''. Receiver marked ''PAT'D DEC. 18,1877'' Shotgun barrels are twist Damascus with pattern visible under what appears to be a hand applied brown finish. Front sight is plain bead. Mounted with an adjustable tang mounted flip-up peep sight which is stamped ''PAT. MAY 6/84''. The shotgun bores are in very good condition. Rifle barrel lands/grooves are strong & in very good condition. SN on frame/barrels/forestock & forestock retaining wedge. Plain steel shotgun style buttplate. Barrel to receiver fit is tight. & function is excellent. Unique to this make/model is the release which requires the front trigger to be pushed to release the break open of the barrels for loading/cleaning. LOP: 14'', DAC: 2'', DAH: 3''.
