MARVELOUS & RARE, New York Engraved Colt Single Action Frontier Six Shooter, .44/40 cal., MFG. 1882, SN: 83654 & all numbers matching. 7 1/2'' barrel. Comes with a COLT Factory letter verifying the original configuration & history of the pistol.. This Special Order Frontier Six Shooter was ordered by & delivered to Hartley & Graham New York, NY. Letter indicates ''Finish: Soft''. The word ''soft'' indicates revolver was shipped without final finishing, for engraving outside the Colt factory, likely by Hartley & Graham. Hartley & Graham are well known to have employed some of the best engravers of the period, amongst them L.D. Nimschke. One of the premier 19th Century (1850-1900) New York engravers, best known for the custom engraved Colt revolvers he executed for New York retailers, Schuyler, Hartley and Graham. Likely engraved by him or his shop, the pistol is engraved with intertwined scrolls & foliate arabesque patterns. Mounted with spectacular 2-pc ''Bull's Head'' pearl grips which are high polished & display wonderful natural fire. There appears to be a tight 1'' natural layer flaw which in the left grip which does not distract. The relief carving of steer on the right grip is typical of the period. There are areas with tiny rust speckles in the ''SOFT' white finish, but not distracting. Excellent bore. Fabulous & highly collectible, with documentation to match.* Antique No FFL Req - Value: 20000 to 30000
