Franz Von Dreyse, German Sporting Rifle, 9.55 X 47mm Cal., MFG. 1874, SN: 21660, Bolt Action Rifle, 26 1/2'' Octagon barrel. The factory checkered walnut stock carries a cheekpiece & a Schuetzen prong style buttplate. The wedge-fastened forend has a Schnabel tip. The stock appears to carry the original finish, with added oils, with few scrapes, scuffs or scratches. There is a 2'' hairline crack at the left wrist, 5'' grain crack on right side of buttstock & 4'', 3'' & 2'' cracks at the forend tip. There are also small edge chips on the Schnabel tip. The barrel, receiver & trigger guard all carry an even chocolate brown patina. There are areas of patina loss where barrel appears to have been cleaned, as there speckling & some rust pitting. The barrel carries fluted sides 2/3rds down the flats of the octagon barrel. The receiver, bolt lever & trigger guard all carry ornate scroll hand engraving. There is a beautifully carved horn scroll accent piece behind the trigger guard. The wood behind the upper tang is fitted with a large disk, adjusting peep sight, while the barrel carries an adjusting rear sight & standard front sight. Barrel has the maker's mark silver inlaid. The buttplate carries a flat black applied finish. Bore is very good, with some spotty roughness but strong rifling. Double set triggers. Barrel & stock have sling attachments, which carry a correct period leather sling. Matching serial number or partial number located on barrel, bolt, trigger guard screws & other small parts. A wonderful & custom built sporting/target rifle. No FFL Req. - Value: 500 to 1000
