RARE Winchester, Model 1866 Saddle Ring Carbine, Movie Prop Rifle, Lever Action Carbine. Stembridge Gun Rentals was formed around 1920 by James Stembridge & legendary director Cecil B. De Mille to supply guns to the movie industry. They were literally located on the Paramount's lot, but supplied weaponry to all the major studios. They grew to an inventory of over 9,000 gun's before closing their doors & selling off their inventory in 1999-2000. As demand for the early guns grew, so did the popularity, cost & collectability of original examples, making it difficult to acquire many models in sufficient quantities. Stembridge thus commissioned replica firearms to be produced that would meet the demand & satisfy both the actors & the critical movie lens. This particular rifle is one of those replicas of an old west early Winchester 1866 carbine, with pop or cast metal parts which actually move & function like the real carbine. The carbine levers & loads with internal moving parts & the trigger & hammer both function authentically. Receiver also has the open top ejection opening, saddle ring, functioning loading gate & lever locking lug. The barrel carries an authentic looking carbine flip-up ladder sight & pinched barrel band front sight. The crescent metal buttplate carries the outline of a flip open trapdoor. The wood stocks are very good, solid & original, with small handling marks, contusions & a hairline crack at the forend tip. The prop carbine is overall excellent & may have had a role in one of your favorite movies. The saddle ring carries a Stembridge Gun Rentals identity hanging tag & comes with a 5 page article from January of 1969 discussing the company, their history & their role in the movie industry. This is your chance to own part of the Old West movie tradition & a Winchester 1866 at a fraction of the cost of the real McCoy. No FFL Req. - Value: 200 to 500
