Winchester, Model 1873 Saddle Ring Carbine, Third variation, .44 WCF Cal., MFG. 1885, SN: 185797B, Lever Action Carbine, 20'' round barrel, Full mag, Wood stocks are good & solid, with the original finish & an added thin finish layer over the top. The stock has numerous tiny chips of wood loss & edge wear at the toe of the buttplate, along tangs & against the receiver. Some edges of the finish has worn off & darkened from oils.
The stocks retain authentic character from the dings, scraps & contusions consistent with honest use. The stocks appear original with the forend measuring in at 9'' & LOP on stock measuring in at 13''. Stock is fitted with a metal carbine buttplate with sliding trapdoor. The metal surfaces have a spotty aged brown patina. Barrel has numerous tiny contusions or abrasions along the sides of the barrel. Bore is good, with strong rifling & even roughness. The barrel carries the correct 1873 marked ladder rear sight & the standard box post carbine sight. Retains original saddle ring. Both the action & dust cover appear smooth & tight. Trigger has front to back slack, but seems to function correctly. These old 1873 carbines are favorites amongst collectors, particularly in 44 caliber. A wonderful old frontier carbine with lots of stories to tell. Antique No FFL Req. - Value: 1500 to 3000
