Winchester, Model 1876, First Variation, .45-75 Cal. (unmarked), MFG. 1877, SN: 1490, Lever Action Rifle, 28'' Octagon barrel, Full mag. The SN on the lower tang is 1490, with the numbers ''79'' & ''188'' stamped separately on the left side of the lower tang under the wood. The same numbers ''188'' & ''79'' are stamped ion the wood inside the upper tang slot. The rifle carries no caliber marking on the barrel or brass block. While the tang stamped serial number places the rifle as a first variation, the rifle carries a dust cover like the second variation rifles, with the thumb print & two screw guide, which is not that uncommon. The wood stocks are excellent & solid, with numerous minor handling marks, light scratches & minor contusions. There is a chattering of tiny blemishes of about 3'' on the right side of stock & the length of the forearm from possible storage in a gun rack or similar situation. The wood carries the majority of the original factory finish, thinning in carry areas & has an additional thin layer of protective oils. The metal blue finish appears to be the original high polish factory blue, with 80% remaining on all surfaces. Bore is excellent. The lever & second variation hammer are both case-hardened, displaying faded case-colors. Second variation crescent metal sliding trapdoor buttplate. The original 1876 marked adjustable ladder rear sight has a bit of edge filing on one side. Has a standard front sight. Action & dust cover remain tight & proper functioning. Overall, an excellent & high condition example of an old west 1876. Antique, No FFL Req. - Value: 2000 to 4000
