FABULOUS DELUXE Winchester, Model 1885 Schuetzen Rifle, .32-40 Cal., MFG. 1897, SN: 78254, Lever Action Single Shot Rifle, 34'' Full Octagon #3 barrel which was factory upgraded from a #2 barrel. This special order rifle carries a number of customized features. According to the factory letter, it was originally sent to the warehouse on June 23, 1897. Before it could be sent out, it was upgraded with several custom features & returned to the warehouse on September 29, 1897 & shipped on that same day. The XXX deluxe checkered pistol grip wood stocks are excellent, solid & original. The 1st style Swiss cheeked stock carries a steep rise top comb & a nickeled Swiss Schuetzen buttplate. The Schnabel forearm with ebony inlay in the tip. Both stocks display fantastic grain & the majority of factory finish. The are a handful scuffs & light handling marks. The factory blued finish on barrel remains at 90%, while the case-hardened receiver, spur lever & hammer retain smokey outlines & muted case-colors. The rifle carries double set triggers which work correctly. The bore is very good, with solid rifling. Barrel is mounted with a 16'' Winchester A5 scope on Winchester mounts, a blank filled dovetail & blade front sight. The bolt has become pitted, likely from corrosive primers, but it has been cleaned & some black finish applied probably as an attempt to protect the surface. The barrel is marked ''32-40'' on top of barrel flat & under forearm. The barrel is also marked with a ''3'' for barrel weight ahead of forearm & under forearm. The side of left tang is marked with ''XXX'', ''3909'', & ''SBC''. The buttplate & buttstock are stamped with ''3913'' assembly #. Comes with a Cody Factory Records letter confirming features. This rifle has a wonderful appearance & remains highly collectible as an original condition deluxe Schuetzen 1885 rifle. Antique, No FFL Req. - Value: 5000 to 10000
