Winchester Model 1886, Marked 45-70 Cal., MFG: 1895, SN: 97137, Lever Action Rifle, 26'' Octagon barrel. Full Mag. The original straight grip wood stock has been heavily sanded & non-professionally refinished. The forearm is likely a modern replacement finished to match. The stocks carry few blemishes. The thickness of the stock has been altered by the sanding, most heavily on the right hand side near the buttplate & the crescent metal buttplate has be altered or ground in an attempt to fit wood. The barrel is chocolate brown with lots of rust & heavy pitting. The receiver is mostly gun metal gray with some spotty brown patina & pitting on the left side. The mag is a replacement & carries 50% blue finish with lots of fine scratches. The bore is fair, with lots of roughness, but rifling remains. Barrel is fitted with an adjustable rear & standard front sights. Action appears to function correctly. While not collectible in this condition, likely a good usable rifle or project rifle.
