Marlin, Model 1889, marked 38-40 Cal., MFG. 1890, SN: 42307, Lever Action Rifle, 26'' Octagon barrel, Full mag., This was Marlin's first lever action with side-ejection. It lead to the model 1894 & eventually to all modern Marlin lever action. The factory straight grip wood stocks are very good & solid. The original finish has worn & thinned at the carry points. There are numerous small scuffs, scratches & minor contusions. The original metal blue finish is retained at 60% on the barrel & mag, with areas of wear toning to a thin brown patina. The case-hardened receiver retains faint smokey outlines of case-colors, with some faint colors in protected areas. The stock carries the original crescent metal buttplate. The barrel carries an original adjustable rear sight & standard front sight. Bore is very good, with some spotty roughness, but strong rifling. Action remains smooth & tight. An excellent example of an original antique Marlin Lever. No FFL Req. - Value: 1000 to 2000
