RARE Winchester, Model 61 Routledge (Smoothbore), Marked .22 L. Rifle FOR SHOT ONLY, MFG. 1939, SN: 48163, Pump Action Take-down Rifle, 24'' Tapered round smoothbore barrel. Barrel opening at the muzzle measures 3/8'' as a Routledge should. Although ''Routledge'' was not stamped on the barrel of these model 61 rifles, they can be distinguished by the matted receiver, a 12'' counterbore instead of an 8'' counterbore & wider loading slot. Most of these Routledge rifles fell in the 45K to 48K serial numbering range, which this rifle falls correctly within that range. Some collectors have speculated or indicated there were only 77 of these Routledge rifles produced, while others say there were supposed to be 100 rifles. Whether it is 77 or 100 or possibly more, its not many more, making this one of the rarest variations of the pump Winchester .22's produced. This rifle has been fully & professionally restored. The factory flat knob pistol grip wood stocks are excellent, with fantastic finish. There are virtually no blemishes to wood or finish. The matted receiver with factory offset proof stamping carries 99%. Barrel & mag also carry 99% blue with slight wear due to pump action & action bar is starting to tone a bit plum. A few of the letters in the stampings are a bit thin, but otherwise very good. Large mouth opening on loading port. Bore is excellent & bright, Bead only sight. Winchester metal buttplate. Some collectors indicate less than 100 were produced. A rare smoothbore which looks nearly new. FFL or C&R Req - Value: 2500 to 5000
