Remington, Model 4, .22 S.& L. Cal., MFG 1902-24, SN: J312120, 22 1/2'' tapered octagon barrel, rolling block single shot rifle. The model 4 was Remington's staple of a boys single shot rifle for over 40 years from 1890 to 1933 in several variation & evolutions. The model 4 began production in 1890 as a screw in fixed barrel, but it was change to a takedown with lever in 1902 until 1924 when it was changed again to a take-down screw. The original wood stocks are good & solid, but the finish is worn thin, with numerous surface defects & contusions. There is a larger 2'' abrasion on the right side of forearm. The original metal blue finish on barrel is 70%, with spotting. The case-hardened receiver displays muted case-coloring. Bore is very good. Barrel carries standard front & rear sights. The stock carries a smooth crescent metal buttplate. The two halves are a bit loose fitting. The lever release take-down version was infamous for not maintaining a tight lock, which is why it was later changed to a take-down screw. FFL or C&R Req. - Value: 150 to 300
