EXTREMELY RARE A.F. Biven, Sartoris Patent Tip-Up Breech Loading Percussion shotgun, Breech diameter 23.1mm, approximately 8ga., SN: 2648. Mfg. 1822-25. Anthony Farindon Biven of London specialized in manufacturing breech-loading rifles & firearms incorporating Urbanus Sartoris' Scottish & English Patents. He was known as a Royal Armor to the King. The rifle was specifically ordered & intended to hunt lions off the backs of elephants while on safari. A very unique firearm. The rifle has a 30 1/2'' browned twist barrel. There is an engraved hinged spring-loaded lever at the breech, which rotates & slides the barrel forward & allowing for breech to tip-up for mid receiver, forward to rear loading. The tip-up breech has hand engraved foliate & hunting dog in pursuit of birds, between gold inlaid bars. The tang is engraved with foliage. Foliate engraved lock. Hammer with detachable nipple. Nicely figured, offset full stock, with cheek & hand checkered wrist & forend. Finely inlaid silver capped forend with accent engraving. There is a 3'' repaired crack along right side of stock under the breech, which does not detract from overall appearance. Engraved steel trapdoor buttplate, with spring release hidden button. Foliate engraved triggerguard with checkered spur. Engraved Puma head on folding barrel handle. A finely built & highly unusual shotgun. Antique, No FFL Req - Value: 4000 to 20000
