OUTSTANDING Winchester Model 97 BLACK DIAMOND TRAP, GOLD INLAID & ENGRAVED, CAL: 16GA , MFG. 1931, SN: 869709, Choke: F, 2-3/4", 28'' barrel with solid rib, Pump Action Shotgun. This unique 16 ga. shotgun is marked ''MODEL 97 -WINCHESTER- 16 GA. 2 3/4'' FULL over -TRADEMARK-''. The bolt is engraved ''TRAP''. The blued receiver is engraved with hunting vignettes of 7 large gold inlays of hunting dogs, flying mallards & quail. The gold value alone would likely be in the thousands. The edges of the receiver & other components are engraved with large scrolls having shaded backgrounds. In his book ''Winchester Shotguns'', Dennis Adlerby indicates the panel scenes are Winchester Custom Shop work reminiscent of the style of J. Ulrich & are similar to the Model 21 Grand Americans (pgs. 66-69). The beautiful ripple figured American walnut, straight grip buttstock features rare wrap-around hand checkering & inlaid black diamonds on both sides of wrist. The small style forend has matching high grade wood & checkering. Buttstock measures 13-3/4" over composition Winchester buttplate. Both metal & wood are excellent, retaining nearly all of their finishes, with only some fading to magazine tube from normal operation. Bore is excellent & bright. The barrel carries a small gold mid-rib bead & silver front bead. Buttstock carries a checkered Winchester buttplate. Overall gorgeous & a collectible 97'. FFL or C&R Req. - Value: 6000 to 10000
